The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a national honor society that recognizes excellence in leadership, academia, and service. Every year, a select few students are chosen, from grades eighth to 10th, to be inducted by their school’s chapter of the honor society.
Elmont Memorial High School student Christopher Alexander was named a Regeneron Science Talent Search semifinalist on Jan. 7. He is among 300 students nationwide to receive this designation.

Elmont Memorial High School eighth grader Maddison Swainbank was chosen as one of four Long Island students to spend four weeks in a vocal intensive with Anwar Robinson, who starred on the fourth season of “American Idol.”

Elmont Memorial High School tenor Shawn Springer has been selected for the NYSSMA All-State Vocal Jazz Choir. The NYSSMA All-State festival, which is taking place virtually this year in December, represents the most talented high school musicians across New York State. This is Springer’s second consecutive year being selected to NYSSMA All-State.
Elmont Memorial High School senior Aiden C. Sarjoo has been named a Commended Student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented to Sarjoo by Principal Kevin Dougherty.

Governor Cuomo announced on Friday, August 7th that school districts must conduct three informational meetings regarding the reopening plan by August 21, 2020. As a result, three remote informational meetings will be held this week.
Elmont Memorial High School student Marvia Pressoir was awarded a Gold Medal for her research presentation at the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, which was held virtually at the end of June.
On June 23, Elmont Memorial High School, along with Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and Island Harvest, helped supply food to more than 400 families in the Elmont community.
