On June 10, singers from the Elmont Memorial School Senior High Chorus participated in a vocal masterclass with singer and songwriter Anwar Robinson. Anwar was the seventh place finalist on the fourth season of “American Idol” and was signed for a record deal by Clive Davis, who also signed Whitney Houston. He went on to tour with the Top 10 contestants of season four and sang for over 500,000 people in more than 40 cities in the United States and Canada.
Josuemanuel Davila’s artwork was recently exhibited at The Firefly Artists Gallery in Northport in the “Kindred Spirits” show. Nneka Nnaguobor, whose painting was also featured in “Long Island's Best: Young Artists” exhibition, had her work chosen to be hung in a new exhibition also at The Firefly Artists Gallery.
Elmont Memorial High School senior Liliann Ulysse has been awarded the Amazon Future Engineers scholarship for $40,000, as well as the Amazon Black Employee Network Scholarship for $20,000. Both scholarships recognize students for their exceptional contributions in the areas of computer science and engineering.
On May 4, members of the Senior High Chorus at Elmont Memorial High School met remotely with the fourth grade chorus students from Bayview Avenue School in Freeport. Both music groups have been working on remote performances of “Shine Like Stars” by Pinkzebra.
Students in the Senior High Orchestra and Music Theory classes participated in an amazing workshop featuring American Jazz pianist, composer and arranger Kenny Ascher.
The winter season was in full effect at our school, as each musical ensemble showcased their performances from both school and home! Thanks to the new instruments purchased by the district, all of our band and orchestra students were able to continue making music during remote learning.
There’s a new districtwide book club! The book, “Shadow and Bone,” will be provided to students who are interested in participating. A virtual book discussion, watch party for the show and “Page 2 Screen” chat are planned for April. Please sign up through the attached flyer.
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a national honor society that recognizes excellence in leadership, academia, and service. Every year, a select few students are chosen, from grades eighth to 10th, to be inducted by their school’s chapter of the honor society.

On June 23, Elmont Memorial High School, along with Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and Island Harvest, helped supply food to more than 400 families in the Elmont community.
