Carey Senior Named Coca-Cola Scholar

Congratulations to Carey senior Shaina Zafar for being named a 2017 Coca-Cola Scholar.
Shaina was one of 150 scholars selected from nearly 86,000 applicants from across the country. A Coca-Cola Scholar not only exemplifies superior leadership, service and academics - they are change agents, positively affecting others in their community. These extraordinary humans are already society’s coffers with bolder action, more amazing technology, bigger advancements, healthier futures and exponential possibility.
Shaina will receive a $20,000 college scholarship and will take part in the Scholars Weekend in Atlanta, April 20-23, and will participate in the Coca-Cola Leadership Development Institute.
“Shaina’s moral compass, sense of compassion, maturity and ethics are clearly distinct from most adolescents,” Principal Christopher Fiore said. “She is an individual who can understand concepts of a higher, deeper and more meaningful level and her ability to comprehend social impact far surpasses that of most of her peers.  She is a visionary and dedicates 100 percent of herself to any task that is presented to her.”
Principal Fiore continued, “We applaud Shaina’s commitment to academics and for consistently addressing social issues that affect our communities. Congratulations!”
