December Seniors Named at H. Frank Carey
H. Frank Carey has recognized Saher Shafiq and Joseph Savoretti as Seniors of the Month for December.
Saher is engaging, respectful, considerate and a genuinely kind person. Her thirst for knowledge, natural intellect and desire to learn is unmatched. Saher’s maturity is evident in every endeavor that she undertakes. Academically, this AP Scholar with Honor student is ranked in the top of her class, and her achievements have been recognized by nomination and acceptance into the English, National and World Language honor societies. She has held several leadership positions as president of Art Palettes, president of 21st Century Scholars, editor of the yearbook, president of Saving Our Society, president of the Desi Society, a contender in the Mathletes, managing editor for Carey Clipper and editor-in-chief of the Poseidon Literary Magazine. Additionally, she is extremely active in community service, speaks five languages and has many achievements in local science fairs and competitions. This senior has applied to a wide range of colleges and universities that include a mix of Ivy League and other highly selective programs.
Joseph is a warmhearted person who shows nothing but sincerity and kindness to those around him. He has demonstrated hard work and perseverance in all subject areas, evident by his acceptance into the National Honor Society as well as the National Technical Honor Society. Joseph stands out in a sea of high-achieving students not only for his academic standards, but for his character and demeanor. This young man is extremely active in school activities as treasurer of the Student Government and student representative for the Class of 2019 Board. He has been a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America and has earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He is a skilled musician and knows how to play both the trumpet and the drums. Additionally, he is a member of the Instrumentation and Automation vocational program and has competed in several conferences in the Model United Nations. Those around him admire his determination to succeed and how he leads without knowing it, in a subtle, understated way.
