Sewanhaka High School hosted two FIRST Tech Challenge Rover Ruckus qualifiers during the weekend of Feb. 9 and 10. Fifty-two teams from both Nassau and Suffolk counties, including the Sewanhaka robotics team, The Robopandas, competed for the opportunity to advance to the Long Island Regional championship.
Students from Sewanhaka’s Culinary Arts Program provided catering services for the more than 50 volunteers during the weekend. Other students from district’s Career and Technical Education programs helped as volunteers throughout the day.
The Robopandas were ranked first out of 28 teams, but unfortunately did not advance to the finals on Sunday. Sewanhaka’s efforts as a school were recognized with the Judges Award, the third-place Connect Award, the second-place Think Award and the third-place Inspire Award.
Sewanhaka will be competing next at the Long Island Regional championship at Syosset High School on March 9.
