Elmont’s Top Student Accepted to All Eight Ivy League Schools

The Sewanhaka Central High School District is pleased to announce that Elmont Memorial High School valedictorian Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools.
The high school senior, who has a 101.64 weighted GPA, applied to 12 colleges and was accepted to all. While Augusta is undecided on which academic institution she plans to attend, she wants to pursue a science-related major and is hoping to go to a college where she can combine her varied scientific interests, which include biochemistry and environmental studies.

Augusta, who has to make a final decision by May 1, described the entire experience as surreal.

"I am humbled by all of the college acceptance letters that I recently received,” she said. “I am reminded that I have a responsibility to be a role model for others and use my experiences to encourage and inspire others, especially young women.”

The Elmont Memorial valedictorian, who was also named a finalist in the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search, thanked her family and teachers for their support.

“My parents have always taught me the value of hard work, and I am very thankful for that,” she said. “My teachers at Elmont Memorial have also played a major role in my development. Elmont Memorial is a very special place, where teachers start their days at 7 a.m. and leave very late in the evening. It is a school where teachers love children and are dedicated to academic achievement. My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful."
In addition to being accepted to each Ivy League school, Augusta was also granted admission to Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
