District Statement Regarding Labor Protests

As you may be aware, The Sewanhaka Central High School District and its residents have made a firm commitment to upgrade District facilities through a recent bond referendum. Once the bond was approved by the voters of the District, the resulting work was bid out in accordance with all applicable state law and regulations. As part of the District’s commitment, all of the District’s contracts for work under the bond require that contractors pay for labor at the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) prevailing wage rate(s), which is comparable to union scale. Based on our bidding results, a significant portion of the work to be completed under the bond project will be accomplished using Union labor.
