Floral Park PEARLS Symposium a Success

On Feb. 27, Floral Park’s PEARLS leaders participated in their 4th annual symposium, led by adviser Dr. Cheryl St. John at the Elmont Public Library. The group was warmly greeted by Principal Mrs. Maria Hecht, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Kathleen Sottile, Assistant Principal Mrs. Jennifer Alaimo and community leader Ms. Claudine Hall.

Throughout the day, the leaders engaged in many teambuilding activities that were facilitated by school social worker Dr. Christine Plackis, as well as the Cultural Proficiency Team: Mr. Anthony D’Amico, Ms. Gina D’Ammassa, Ms. Carolyn Faggioni, Ms. Denise Hayden and Ms. Nasira Rafiq. District Coordinator of Business and Technology Mrs. Christine Licastri and Acting Superintendent of Hempstead Schools Ms. Regina Armstrong were guest speakers. Some of the PEARLS members opened the day with an outstanding cultural dance and readings. Special thanks are extended to Assistant Principal Mrs. Alicia Calabrese, who continues to be supportive of the efforts of our leaders, as well as Ms. Linda White, who provides accommodation yearly for us at the Elmont Library.
