Elmont Memorial Named an Apple Distinguished School

The Sewanhaka Central High School District announced that Elmont Memorial High School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019-2022. The high school was honored for its work in successfully using instructional technology to enhance learning, promote creativity and ensure equity for all students.

Principal Kevin Dougherty said, “I am incredibly proud of our staff, students and community for achieving this distinguished honor in such a short period of time. Our team of outstanding educators embraced the iPads and immediately began innovating and implementing new strategies to help our scholars become more engaged and perform at a higher level. We look forward to continuing to build on our achievement and changing the landscape of what education can look like.”

Brian Messinger, the district coordinator of classroom instructional technology and student achievement, added, “The District could not be more proud of the scholars, educators, leaders and community members who have helped to build such a successful program that has elevated the instruction and school experience at Elmont Memorial High School. Being recognized as an Apple Distinguished School is a tremendous honor, and we cannot wait to see how the program will continue to develop.”

Elmont Memorial is one of five junior/senior high schools in the Sewanhaka Central High School District. All students in the district receive an iPad to use in class and at home.
