On Jan. 7, business students from New Hyde Park Memorial High School and Sewanhaka High School attended Hofstra University’s Mock Trial. While there, students acted as jurors while Hofstra Law students acted out the roles of the plaintiff, defendant, litigators and several witnesses in the civil case Slovin v. Slovin. In the Slovin v. Slovin case, the plaintiff, Michael Slovin, brought action against his wife and defendant, Rita Slovin, for the intentional tort of battery. Students listened to opening statements from the litigators and heard various parties of the case provide their testimony and evidence. Students finally deliberated and decided whether or not the defendant should be held liable for battery. The students were fully engaged and had a wonderful time participating in Hofstra Law School’s Mock Trial.
