Elmont Memorial High School is proud to announce that Marvia Pressoir has been named a New York State International Science & Engineering Fair finalist.
Marvia was selected to represent New York State at this year’s virtual New York State Science & Engineering Fair. Through Zoom videoconferencing, she presented her work to a panel of scientific judges.
Marvia’s project, which investigated the impact of copper and methylmercury on neurodegeneration, has implications for Parkinson’s disease. She found that even at levels considered “safe,” these two metals could work together to cause significant neurodegeneration and behavioral impairment, in a common research organism.
In addition to Marvia, two other Elmont Memorial students, Hannah Meikle and Christopher Alexander, were also selected to present virtually at NYSSEF. They were awarded NYSSEF honors.
