Important Message from the Superintendent, 11.19.2020

Please be advised that a student at Floral Park Memorial High School has a confirmed case of Covid-19.  In consultation with the Nassau County Department of Health, Floral Park Memorial High School will be closed for at least tomorrow, Friday, November 20th.  All Floral Park Memorial High School faculty and staff will work remotely during this time.  All instruction for students of Floral Park Memorial High School will be conducted remotely as well.

Since the last closure of Floral Park Memorial, three other students have tested positive for Covid-19, in addition to this student.  School was not closed since they were not at school during the period where they could have been contagious to others.  However, this does bring the number of positive cases of Covid-19 among students to six since November 9th.  While students have done an exemplary job in school maintaining social distance and wearing their masks, this is the largest number of cases that we have seen in one school since we opened in September.  Please be sure to reinforce with your children good hygiene habits, mask wearing and maintaining social distance when not in school.

As per the guidance from the New York State Education Department and the New York State Department of Health, the building will remain closed to all staff tomorrow and will be deep cleaned and disinfected on Saturday.

The Nassau County Department of Health will conduct contact tracing and inform those who may need to quarantine. Cooperation with the Department of Health is essential to determine the length of the school closure.

Once the contact tracing is completed, I will be able to inform you as to the length of the closure.

As always, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are our top priority.

Respectfully,

James J. Grossane, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools
