Elmont Memorial’s Model UN Succeeds in Virtual Conference

Elmont Memorial High School’s Model UN students participated virtually in the 58th North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) Conference, hosted by Georgetown University from Feb. 12-14. It was the first-ever virtual NAIMUN conference, and over 2,500 students nationwide were registered to participate.

Under the leadership of faculty adviser Nkenge W. Gilliam and co-presidents Faith Greene and Gloria Greene, the Elmont delegates represented Bahrain, Madagascar, Denmark, Burundi, Mozambique and the Netherlands. They proposed comprehensive resolutions that addressed multinational money laundering, UN peacekeeping missions in Africa, increasing access to digital finance, the threat of biological and chemical weapons, and other complex issues. Due to their hard work, the Elmont delegation secured four out of six committee awards.

Congratulations to our entire Elmont delegation: Maida Ali, Akinwale Agesin, Head Delegate Britney Bennett, Madison Gayle, Co-President Faith Greene, Co-President Gloria Greene, Head Delegate Nicole Jean-Pierre, Orobo Ogbovoh, Madison Omega, Kelenna Onyeobia, Preston Pressoir and Tochi Ukegbu.
