Sewanhaka Student a Winner in Long Island Water Quality Challenge

Sewanhaka High School eighth grader Kyla Montoya has been selected as a winner in the 2021 Long Island Water Quality Challenge, a STEAM competition presented by the Long Island Regional Planning Council in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. She was honored for her proposal, titled, “Sawdust and Biochar: The Implementation of Biosorbents in Wastewater Filters.”

Kyla will be receiving an award in acknowledgment of her outstanding effort. A grant will also be awarded to Sewanhaka High School to be used exclusively toward the implementation of the proposed project.
