Elmont Memorial High School student Marvia Pressoir was awarded a Gold Medal for her research presentation at the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, which was held virtually at the end of June.
Pressoir presented her work on the synergistic effect of heavy metal exposure on dopaminergic neurodegeneration and associated behaviors in Caenorhabditis elegans as a model for Parkinson’s disease.
