Helping Those in Need

On Nov. 18, Elmont Memorial High School teamed up with Long Island Cares to distribute 75 turkeys to local families in need.

This targeted food distribution program offered by the school has been in place since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and has been sustained through the generous donations and support from school staff, the custodial team, the PTSA, Elmont Strong, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, supermarkets and local non-profits. Long Island Cares has assisted in supplying some of the food that the school distributes.

Each week, the program is run by the volunteer efforts of current and former school community parents Debra Clarke, Tiffany Capers, Rachelle Lewis, Marie St. Vil and Zeola Hall. This group, with the help of Principal Kevin Dougherty and other high school staff members, has worked hard to make sure the Elmont community is supported in as many ways as possible.
