Floral Park Hosts Third Annual PEARLS Leadership Symposium

Floral Park Memorial PEARLS leaders participated in the third annual Leadership Symposium held at the Elmont Library on Jan. 10.

In addition to many team-building activities, the students were privileged to have as their guest speakers Elmont Memorial school psychologist Kaia Williams, Pupil Personnel Chairperson Caron Cox and Class of 2016 valedictorian Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna. John Capozzi, assistant superintendent, personnel and administration introduced the guest speakers.

The Floral Park leaders were reminded to be tenacious in their approach to life and in their academic pursuits; to speak words of positivity to themselves and others, and to remember to always give back to their community. They were also encouraged to work hard, be cognizant of the fact that victorious living requires hard work and dedication, and that every day provides a new opportunity to get things right. The students were encouraged to push themselves out of their comfort zone.

PEARLS leaders and advisers Dr. Cheryl St. John-Broomes and Keisha Mickens, would like to thank Principal Dr. Kathleen Sottile for her continued support and vision, along with assistant principals John Kenny and Jennifer Alaimo for sharing in that vision.

Special thanks are also extended to Catherine Capozzi, Renee Chin, Dr. Samine Charles-Pierre, Gina D’Ammassa, Adam Glatzer, Claudine Hall of the Jamaica Civic Association, Cassandra Papajohn-Shaw, Kevin Sullivan, and Dr. Christine Plackis for participating in this extraordinary event.
