Floral Park Memorial is proud to announce Sammy Huang and Italia Gorksi as the Class of 2018’s valedictorian and salutatorian.

Sammy embodies the brilliance, humble demeanor and drive befitting the Class of 2018 valedictorian. With his sights always set on the most rigorous schedule offered, Sammy was an outstanding success in all of his Advanced Placement courses including human geography, world and U.S. history, European history, chemistry, physics and Spanish. As a result, Sammy earned a score of 5 on all but one of the Advanced Placement exams he sat for, achieving a score of 4 on the exception. Moreover, Sammy’s astounding 103.93 average ranks among the highest in Floral Park Memorial High School’s history.

Taking a proactive approach to his areas of interest, most specifically in the math and science fields, Sammy spent a summer studying genetics and molecular biology at Columbia University’s summer high school program. In addition, Sammy worked at John F. Kennedy International Airport the past few years as a volunteer helper for passengers at the airport. Sammy is also an accomplished violinist, performing since he was nine years old. He has participated in the New York State School Music Association String Solo Festival, performing recitals of classical music at Level II, III, and IV before adjudicators who lauded his talents with “outstanding” and “excellent” evaluations. Sammy will be applying to some of the most prestigious schools in the country, including the University of Pennsylvania, CUNY Macauley Honors College, Stony Brook University, University at Binghamton and Northeastern University.
