Hecht Tapped for Floral Park Memorial Principal

The Board of Education appointed Maria Hecht as the new principal of Floral Park Memorial High School. Ms. Hecht most recently served as an assistant principal of New Hyde Park Memorial High School. She replaces Jason Martin, who resigned on Aug. 2.

Ms. Hecht has been with the district for more than 30 years. She began as a teacher of English at New Hyde Park Memorial High School and became the English Chairperson at Floral Park Memorial High School in 1998. She also served as the district coordinator of English from 2004 – 2006, before appointed assistant principal of New Hyde Park Memorial High School. A post she held for 12 years. 

She received her education at St. John's University and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Education/English, a Master of Science in Secondary English and a professional diploma in administration and supervision.

The Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Ferrie are enthusiastic about Ms. Hecht’s appointment and anticipate that she will use her leadership skills and experience in education to ensure her success in this position.

Ms. Hecht will assume her new role on Aug. 10. She, along with assistant principals Jennifer Alaimo and Alicia Calabrese, are looking forward to an academic school year filled with enriched educational opportunities for Floral Park students.
