Floral Park Students Learn About Litigation at ‘The People’s Court’
Floral Park Memorial Business Law students and Future Business Leaders of America members recently traveled to Stamford, Connecticut, to attend a taping of “The People’s Court.”
As part of the courtroom audience, students learned about civil litigation while listening to multiple cases that consisted of disputes between individuals. One of the most interesting cases consisted of two tenants who could barely go a night without harassing each other. The plaintiff showed the judge video footage of altercations with her neighbor. In addition to hearing the cases, students were on the set of a television show and experienced a real taping behind the scenes.
Following the cases, Judge Marilyn Milian engaged in a question-and-answer session with Floral Park Memorial students. She answered questions regarding law school, the most interesting cases she’s encountered throughout her career and what it’s like being the first Latina arbitrator to preside over a court show. It was truly an experience to remember.
