Salutatorian spotlight.

Katherine Gilman is a highly accomplished student who consistently demonstrates exceptional academic performance and outstanding leadership. Her high scores on both her Advanced Placement exams and the Preliminary SAT are reflected in her recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction and a Commended National Merit Scholar. She is also a recipient of a Long Island Math Fair Gold Award. Beyond her rigorous coursework, she has distinguished herself as a leader across numerous areas of student life. She is the founder of the Math Research Club, head mentor of the Middle School Robotics Club, president of the National Honor Society, co-president of both Key Club and Stage Crew, captain of the girls’ district varsity tennis team, and treasurer of Student Council. She also participates actively in Mathletes and SkillsUSA, earning first place regionally and third place statewide along with Fiona and their teammates. A talented flutist, she is a member of the high school band, has been selected for the District Music Festival for two consecutive years and earned a NYSSMA Outstanding Award. Driven by her passion for STEM, she served as the hardware team lead and project manager on the district’s team for the NASA TechRise Student Challenge. She also leads younger students as the head volunteer coach for an after-school elementary robotics program and expanded community access to STEM education by founding the first engineering class at the public library. Her commitment to increasing STEM access – both within her community and beyond – also aligns with her Girl Scout Gold Award project, which she is currently working to complete. Katherine also dedicates her time as a lifeguard at Garden City Pool and a mathematics tutor for middle school students.

Congratulations, Katherine!
