Federal Student Aid

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT FOR SENIORS & PARENTS - SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 - AUDITORIUM 7PM

Starting with the 2017–18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), the following changes have been put in place:

  • Students are now able to submit a FAFSA® earlier.  Students have been able to file a 2017–18 FAFSA since Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017. The earlier submission date is a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit a FAFSA as early as Oct. 1 every year. (There is NO CHANGE to the 2016–17 schedule. The FAFSA became available Jan. 1 as in previous years.)

  • Students now report earlier income information. Beginning with the 2017–18 FAFSA, students are required to report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) must report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.

If you’d like more details about the changes, you may read the fact sheet called College Students and Parents: What You Need to Know About the 2017–18 FAFSA®.

This research tool provides comprehensive information on thousands of colleges.  In addition to general and admissions information, further data is presented on academics, cost and financial aid, student body characteristics, extracurricular activities and athletic programs.  For colleges to which Sewanhaka students (2009-present) have applied, the number applied, admitted and enrolled students are shown with a link to a “scattergram” graph.

College Search
Students input criteria such as size, location, cost, availability of specific majors or athletic programs, and students can produce a list of colleges that meet their criteria.

Acceptance History
This feature shows all colleges to which SHS students have been accepted, class of 2009, as well as the number of students accepted and number enrolling at each.

College Visit Schedule
As college representatives schedule information sessions at SHS, these will be posted on line.  Click on Visit Schedule, or view the page for a particular college to see whether a session is scheduled.  Juniors and Seniors with personal accounts may sign up online.  Others may sign up in the guidance office. STUDENT MUST HAVE PASS SIGNED BY EXCUSING TEACHER TO MISS CLASS FOR ANY COLLEGE VISIT. Attention all seniors that will be processing applications through the common application.  Below is a link that will provide you with a step by step tutorial. https://vimeo.com/73384070
