November Model Citizens

November’s Model Citizens were nominated by teachers in the English department, with the theme of gratitude.

Sinai Torres was chosen for the kindness that she not only shows to her teacher, but for the kindness that she shows to all of her classmates. From day 1 in September, she offered to assist with translating for her classmates that speak other languages and is always willing to be a friend to everyone in the room. She is a natural leader that is quick to take on a group of her classmates to assist them with their work.

Valeena Turner was chosen for her friendly, creative and helpful nature. She talks to Ms. Giammarino every day, assists with classroom routines and always creates beautiful artwork.

Alexander Rommel Isoga was chosen for his manners and kindness. He starts every class with a good morning and a smile and ends with a “thank you” for the lesson. He is always extra prepared and is never without a smile.

Mylove Joseph is very welcoming to every new student and helps anyone in need, even those who don't speak the same language. She is a natural leader and actively participates in every class. She takes initiative and good care of all who surround her. She is a model student and overall person.

Courtney McGruder, Emaan Tehseen, Krissy Jorge and Kairo Campbell, who are the backbone of every National English Honor Society event. They decorate, they read for book clubs and they create an environment of kindness and collaboration.

Jasmeet Kaur is an AP Research student who has helped her peers every time she learned something new in the course.

Tania Trent, Tristan Robert, Fahab Khan, Odelia Nugent and Kyle McGruder were chosen for their support and collaboration in groups. They have helped create a respectful and rigorous community in the classroom. 

Namanpreet Kaur goes above and beyond for the school in her roles on the Elmont Broadcast Network. She is creative and a natural leader. She is resourceful and reliable.

Aleena Joe is a quiet, behind the scenes leader on the Elmont Broadcast Network.

Christina George has taken on the task of pruning and caring for the geraniums and other flowers brought into the library. She waters the flowers, deadheads the old blooms, and just does a wonderful job of keeping the library a pretty place that kids enjoy visiting! The windowsill looks beautiful and bright!

Alisson Solis is intrinsically motivated and puts her all into everything she does. When it comes to the classroom community, Alisson is easy to work with and is willing to step out of her comfort for the good of herself and others. She is considerate and wise in her decision making. As a student who recently moved to this country, Alisson's optimism, drive and determination have helped her get to where she is today and ultimately earn this award!

Terry Guerrier is a great example of a Model Citizen. Many people are drawn to him because of his friendly personality and welcoming demeanor toward all people; not just those that are like him. In Ms. Baah’s class, Terry is always willing to be a helping hand to his peers and to his teachers. Terry is a leader in how he carries himself around school and in how he performs in the classroom. 

Jessica Walters is a bright, diligent and unassuming student. She never seems to crave the spotlight, but it is difficult to overlook the quality of work she produces and the level of effort she exhibits.  It is a pleasure to have her in class.

Jessie Zetino Estrada is always giving her personal best and is always willing to help any student who is struggling. She has been instrumental in helping new, Spanish-speaking students adjust to the inclusion classroom environment. Along with her polite and respectful demeanor, creating relationships with peers and teachers, Jessie is always one step ahead and always on task.  

Shourya Raj is a new student who did not waste any time falling into classroom routines, participating, and trying his best. He displays maturity and grit in the classroom and is someone the other students in the grade can look up to.  

David Cherfilus is the student every teacher wants in the classroom. He is always ready to go with a warm greeting and positive attitude, and his work ethic pays off. He is a high achiever who inspires others to also participate and remain engaged. He demonstrates terrific leadership skills, and is always willing to help.  

Alexander Sanichar is a quiet giant. He participates often and provides a solid foundation to class discussions and has a deep understanding of topics. He is a model student in the sense that he prioritizes work and routine. He offers insight that others can truly benefit from, yet always maintains a sense of modesty and grace.
