Elmont Memorial High School’s Model United Nations students attended the international University of California at Berkeley Model United Nations Conference, from March 7-10.

The students represented the nations of Bahamas, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brunei, India, Malawi, Romania and Zambia in the committees of Economic and Financial Council (ECOFIN), Special Political and Decolonization Committee, and the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC). During the conference, they developed resolutions for issues such as the Venezuelan Economic Crisis, Vigilante Violence in Global Conflicts and Combating Foreign Aid Dependency Post COVID-19.

Members of the delegation included Vice President and Head Delegate Madison Gayle, Elissa Acheampong, Jayson Bhoorasingh, Christopher Chery, Ruthann Collins, Joseley Jean, Alex Lalbachan, Imani Lyons, Yalisah Lozada, Kiara Membreno, Videsh Muneshwar, Nwadiuto Onyeobia, Varda Qudratullah, Maya Reyes, Giselly Romero and Kassie Rosier.

The delegation secured seven committee awards, including a Best Position Award in ECOFIN, a Best Delegate Award in DISEC and a Best School Award.
