The district is proud to announce that seven students earned awards for their outstanding science research at Round II of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair on March 12.
The top 25% of projects were invited to compete in person at Crest Hollow Country Club, following the virtual first round in February. LISEF showcases the most advanced high school research, with participants presenting to professionals in their subject areas from local universities, scientific institutions and in the field.
Elmont Memorial High School students earned the following awards: Christina Bayne, second place in the Environmental category; Kahela Michel, honorable mention in the Environmental category; Odelia Nugent, honorable mention in the Chemistry category; and Varda Qudratullah, honorable mention in the Biology category. Additionally, both Christina and Kahela received a special award for Women in Geosciences, and Kahela also earned a special award from NOAA.
H. Frank Carey High School student Ryan Tim earned an honorable mention in the Technology category. New Hyde Park Memorial High School students Ethan Lin earned second place in the Technology category and Dominic Cyril earned an honorable mention in the Biology category.
