Music Department:

Courtney McGruder is a ninth grade clarinet player who exemplifies the theme of friendship and respect. Courtney is friendly and well-liked amongst her peers. She is highly motivated and responsible, and always goes above and beyond to help her peers stay organized and informed in class. 

Kiara Membreno is a trumpet player in Band 8 and exudes the theme of friendship and respect. She brings her infectious positive energy to class every day and is so supportive of her peers. She is caring, kind and well-respected.

Kyle McGruder is a seventh grader who is section leader of the percussion section for Band 7 and exemplifies the theme of friendship and respect. Kyle works with the entire percussion
section to ensure all equipment and music is organized at the end of every rehearsal. He is well-liked and respected by his peers and is mature beyond his years.

Gloria Edo-Osagie is extremely sensitive to the needs of students in class. If there is someone around her who is struggling, she immediately notifies her teacher so that that student can receive help. She is an excellent support and a terrific friend!

Alexis Almodovar is a leader in the vocal department and a model student. In preparation for the spring concert, Alexis gave up her free time to help her classmates. She regularly meets with younger members of the choir in practice rooms to help them improve their craft. She also organized and ran an after-school rehearsal for the jazz choir.

Michael Walker went above and beyond when completing his final project for General Music. Michael wrote a short script for a mini-play about life as a teenager. Not only did he write an original script, but he also engaged his classmates by casting them as characters in preparation for a short performance of his work. He included several members of the
class, and he demonstrated leadership and respect as he instructed them on how portray the characters of his script.

World Language Department:

Deline Thurton is a lovely and personable young lady. She always has a smile on her face and embodies positivity. She is always enthusiastic when completing her work and is welcoming to her fellow classmates when working collaboratively.

Kassie Rosier is a hard worker and extremely respectful and kind. She is very well behaved and a great role model to her peers. She is very involved in school activities and is a wonderful friend to others.

Tayshaun Powell is a model citizen for his constant respectful and kind behavior. Tayshaun
exhibits great qualities of a respectful young man as he always greets his teachers and school administrators, is on task when asked and works responsibly with his peers. His kind demeanor welcomes inquiry and allows his peers to approach him for collaboration and aid.

Suleman Riaz is the smiling friendly face we see around our building each day. He is always willing to lend a hand, be it for his friends, fellow peers or teachers. You can find him having positive and light-hearted conversations with everyone in our community. He is always trying to
make people smile by sharing a song recommendation, a story, a photo or a thought. He is consistently respectful, positive, friendly and helpful to all around him!

Fahab M Khan shows respect by valuing other students and himself. He treats others well even if they look, act or believe differently than him. Fahab is able to discuss respect in different cultures without any prejudice. Moreover, he demonstrates kindness and good manners every day. Fahab values someone’s opinion even if it’s different than his own. Lastly, Fahab is a true example of a model citizen.

Namanpreet Kaur is a bright, kind, caring and helpful young lady. She is very helpful to her teacher and is always willing to help students who are having difficulty. She serves as a wonderful example of a Model Citizen.

Sharon Na’anmiap is always willing to share information and help her teachers and classmates. When the completed assignments of two students were accidentally deleted from their iPad only days ago, Sharon was quick to recover and restore their work.

Christen, Mekayla, Brandon, Kaitlin, Kaitlyn and Layla are each outstanding students who always demonstrate respect in the art classroom and are great friends to their peers. This group is a fine example of Elmont Memorial High School and are truly deserving of the Model Citizen designation!
