Congratulations to Floral Park's Male Athlete of the Year Michael Donovan and Female Athlete of the Year Leanne Richardson!
This recognition that speaks to Michael’s incredible versatility and commitment across multiple sports. A dedicated tri-athlete, he has made significant contributions to the soccer, winter track and spring track teams throughout his high school career. In winter track, he was an integral part of the team, helping them finish as runner-up in both the conference and county championships. As a senior, Michael earned All-County honors as a member of the school's 4x200m relay team. As a junior, he earned All-Conference recognition in the winter season. His dedication and leadership on the track helped elevate his teams to new heights, solidifying his status as one of the top athletes in Floral Park. A state champion on the soccer field, Michael’s impact was just as profound. As a captain and 3-year varsity starter, he scored eight goals and recorded nine assists, playing a key role in his team’s success. He earned All-County Honorable Mention his senior year and All-Conference honors as a junior, while also being named Nassau County Playoff MVP. His clutch performances in critical moments – including a game-winning playoff goal against North Shore, a goal in the County finals against Lawrence and a goal in the state semifinals against Lady of Lourdes – showcased his ability to rise to the occasion. A true team player, Michael played multiple positions – defense, midfield and attack – and was always willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of the team, even stepping into a defensive role in the final moments of their championship run to help secure the victory. He embodied the essence of a student-athlete: always committed, disciplined and dedicated to his team's success. Michael will be attending Binghamton in the fall.
Leanne is the kind of athlete every team dreams of having. A true tri-sport standout, she has competed in cross country, winter track and spring track, giving her all in every season. For the past three years, Leanne has been the backbone of our girls' winter track team, breaking school records in both the long jump at 16 feet, 9 inches, and the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches. This winter alone, she earned All-County honors in the 55m dash, the 4x200m relay and the long jump. During her junior year, she also earned All-County honors in the winter season. Her spring season has been nothing short of amazing and it is still going. Leanne ran a blazing 12.59 in the 100m and a 26.62 in the 200m. She shattered the school’s long jump record again with a leap of 17 feet, 1 inch and posted a strong 3:04.22 in the 800m as part of the Pentathlon. With a school-record Pentathlon score of 2097, Leanne showed just how versatile she is — competing in hurdles, high jump, shot put and more. Over the season, she earned 13 medals, placing high in almost every event she entered, from sprints to jumps to relays. What makes Leanne special isn’t just the medals or records, it’s her attitude. She leads by example, shows up ready to work, and supports her teammates and coaches without hesitation. Whether she’s anchoring a relay, setting a personal best, or cheering from the sidelines, Leanne gives it her all. Her fire, focus and heart make her one of the most complete athletes to come through Floral Park. Leanne will be attending and running at Molloy University in the fall.
