The Student Council recently traveled to the Island Harvest Healthy Harvest Farm in Brentwood, where they learned about sustainable farming practices and the different types of food that can be grown right here on Long Island. They had the opportunity to taste many kinds of edible flowers and plants, and learned about the farm and how it services many local food pantries on Long Island. These food pantries provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables to those with food insecurities. During the day, students harvested 242 pounds of tomatoes, peppers and cilantro. This food was picked up by a local food pantry and will be on the tables of Long Island families. It was a memorable trip for all!
