During the week of Feb. 9, students and staff at Floral Park Memorial came together to prepare for the annual P.S. I Love You celebrations. This meaningful week is dedicated to celebrating students’ individuality and reminding every Knight that they belong and are valued members of our school community. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Be a Light,” the Counseling Center, alongside Breakfast Club members, visited Health 7 classes on Monday and Tuesday to guide students in creating origami lanterns. These lanterns were later used by Leader Corps students to decorate the main hallway, filling the school with messages of hope and positivity.
On Tuesday, students in each Period 2 class wrote messages of hope, light and encouragement on purple light bulbs, which were then displayed throughout the hallways by Student Council. On Wednesday, students recorded a new episode of Mini Mic, the Counseling Center’s student-led interview segment, answering the question, “How can you be a light for your peers?” On Thursday, the Counseling Center, with the help of Breakfast Club members, hosted tabling activities in the cafeterias, where students wrote uplifting messages to one another. On Friday morning, as students entered the building, they were greeted with these same positive messages and a small treat to start their day. The hallways were also transformed with near-professional décor and balloon arches, thanks to the varsity cheerleading team. To conclude the week’s festivities, the PALS program hosted a bake sale during lunch periods, where students enjoyed sweet treats in celebration of P.S. I Love You Day.
In addition, staff members participated in a Staff Door Decorating Contest, transforming classroom and office doors to reflect the “Be a Light” theme. The creative and heartfelt displays further brightened the building and reinforced the message of kindness, connection and community throughout the school.
Each year, during the P.S. I Love You celebrations, we are reminded of how valuable every student and staff member is to the Floral Park Memorial community. Through these activities, we hope that everyone is reminded of just how loved, supported, and meaningful they truly are.
