Floral Park Memorial School spirit was on full display as the community came together to celebrate homecoming on Oct. 3.
The day’s festivities began with the annual homecoming parade, where students, families and community members lined the streets to cheer on participants. The parade featured the marching band, cheerleaders, Florettes, homecoming court and a variety of student organizations, all proudly showcasing their Knight pride.
The excitement continued on the football field as fans packed the stands, creating an electric atmosphere for the afternoon matchup. This year’s homecoming celebration also served as a tribute marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Before kickoff, the community united for a moment of silence, followed by a rendition of “Taps” performed by Floral Park Memorial marching band member Gabrielle Ifill, honoring the 2,977 lives lost, the brave first responders and the resilience shown in the wake of one of the nation’s most tragic days. Former Floral Park Fire Department Chief Kenny Fairben was invited to participate in the honorary coin toss. Fairben's son, Keith G. Fairben, a lifelong Floral Park resident and Floral Park Memorial graduate, lost his life on Sept. 11 while helping others in need.
The tribute continued as Floral Park’s varsity captains took the field wearing jerseys honoring Welles Crowther, known as “The Man in the Red Bandana.” A stock trader at the World Trade Center and volunteer firefighter in West Nyack, Crowther became a symbol of courage and selflessness after helping numerous people reach safety during the attacks.
The Knights took on East Rockaway High School and earned a hard-fought victory of 42-21. During halftime, the crowd enjoyed spirited performances by the Florettes and varsity cheerleaders, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. This year’s homecoming royalty, crowded during Friday’s pep rally, are Lucas Chatterton, Joseph Donovan
Olivia Elliott, Robert LaVerdi, Janie Marsanico, Rania Seemnagal and Olivia Vigo.
From the parade route to the football field, this year’s homecoming brought together students, staff, families and alumni for a memorable day filled with tradition, school pride and community connection. The annual celebration once again highlighted the strong sense of unity that defines the school community.
