Floral Park Memorial High School is pleased to announce that Noordeep Kaur and Elizabeth Shen are the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2027.

Noordeep has distinguished herself as an exceptional student whose dedication to service and leadership has made a lasting impact on the school community. Highly involved in school life, she serves as Class Board secretary, helping to organize bake sales, fundraising initiatives and schoolwide events. She is also an active member of the Leo Club, where she assists in coordinating and running blood drives. Her involvement extends to Student Council, the PEARLS Club and the South Asian Association Society, reflecting her commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. Her receipt of the Leadership Achievement Award is a testament to her ability to inspire others and commitment to leading by example. Beyond her contributions within the school, she has dedicated more than 100 hours to serving her community through a variety of local initiatives. She has supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital by creating handmade cards to bring encouragement and positivity to young patients, and has volunteered at Floral Park’s Liz’s Day, local food and clothing drives and with the Hance Family Foundation. In addition, she generously tutors fellow students in math, science and reading, further demonstrating her passion for helping others succeed. Noordeep is a member of multiple honor societies, serving as the president of World Language Honor Society, treasurer of English Honor Society and the vice president of National Honor Society.

“Noordeep strives to really give back to our community here at Floral Park and the larger community as a whole,” Principal Alicia Calabrese said. “It’s that combination of exceptional scholarship, commitment to service and outstanding character that makes her an amazing candidate for valedictorian of our school.”

A talented artist and accomplished writer, Elizabeth has devoted much of her time at Floral Park Memorial to pursuing and promoting the arts. She serves as president of the Creative Writing Club, vice president of the school’s literary magazine, Trumpet, and has been selected as this year’s Poet Laureate. Her creative talents have earned her the Brown University Book Award for Literary Achievement and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for her participation in Representative Laura Gillen’s 2026 Congressional Art Competition. Beyond her artistic pursuits, she is an active member of the Yearbook Club, Badminton Club and vice president of Student Council. She also serves as president of the National English Honor Society and is a member of the National Art Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Mathematics Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society and National Honor Society. Recognized for her academic excellence, she has earned AP Scholar with Distinction honors. Outside of school, she is a dedicated Girl Scout who has been involved with the organization since first grade. Throughout her years of service, she has earned both the Bronze and Silver Awards and has completed more than 70 hours of community service.

“Elizabeth is a wonderful person, dedicated to herself but also to our great community,” Ms. Calabrese said. “She has a sincere commitment to furthering art and writing as a vehicle to create a more peaceful world.”
