Congrats, Val and Sal!

New Hyde Park Memorial High School has named Aparna Shibu and Nathaniel Park as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2024.

Aparna is recognized as being perceptive, determined and passionate in all she does. She is a member of the National Science, National Mathematics, National Spanish, National Art and Tri-M Music Honor Societies. Additionally, Aparna is in the Science Research Program and has competed annually at regional science fairs, including the Long Island Science Congress. Through Science Research, she has also participated in the 2022 Medical Marvels Research Competition and the 2021 Long Island Water Quality Challenge. Aparna serves in multiple leadership roles, including as the president of the National Science Honor Society, vice president of the National English Honor Society, co-president of the World Languages Honor Society, vice president of Science Olympiads, president of Students Put an End to Cancer Club (SPEC), digital content editor and secretary of Arena magazine, and co-captain of the Step Team. Aparna is also a member of Math Olympiads; Chariot, the school newspaper; and The Lance, the school yearbook. Among her roles outside of school, she is a junior volunteer at North Shore University Hospital and a volunteer at the New Hyde Park Village Hall.

Nathaniel
is regarded as an outstanding student, accomplished musician, dedicated
athlete and compassionate volunteer. His academic achievements shine
through his selection as an AP Scholar
with Honors and membership in the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics, Tri-M
Music, Science, World Language and the English honor societies. Due to
his high scores on the Preliminary SAT, he was recognized as a Commended
Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Nathaniel is a talented trombone player and is part of the Senior High
Band, the Senior High Jazz Band and Pep Band. He has been selected to
play trombone in the Symphonic Band during the 2023 NYSSMA All-State
Conference. Nathaniel is also a volleyball player,
serving as captain of the boys varsity team. Along with his dedication
to music and athletics, Nathaniel is a member of SPEC, NHP Seekers and
the Italian Club. He has over 100 hours of volunteer time as a tutor and
providing assistant coaching, as well.
