This past weekend, New Hyde Park Memorial High School's Model UN team attended the George Washington University Model UN Conference in Washington, D.C. While there, students had the opportunity to meet Congressman Tom Suozzi, who gave them a tour of the U.S. Capitol, and speak with representatives from the Philippine Embassy. NHPMUN was also featured on Congressman Souzzi’s Instagram!
The delegation earned 10 individual awards, a reflection of their preparation, teamwork and ability to think on their feet in debate.
Experiences like this are a key part of what Model UN offers students. They build confidence in speaking, and strengthen collaboration and critical thinking skills. It gives students a real sense of how international relations and diplomacy function outside the classroom.
