The district marked the holiday season and recognized student achievements during the board of education meeting, held at H. Frank Carey High School on Dec. 16.
Ex Officio board member Christopher Sebber, a junior at Carey, shared recent districtwide highlights during the Student Report, including winter concerts and art shows, food and toy drives, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee meeting.
The District Chorale Ensemble brought holiday cheer to board members, staff and families with its cherished annual performance. Made up of students from all five school buildings, the ensemble circled the auditorium and delivered spirited renditions of “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Joy to the World” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” Choir members practiced the selections individually within their schools before coming together for a brief rehearsal ahead of their uplifting performance at the board meeting. They were led by Sewanhaka High School Choir Director Rachel Daloia, New Hyde Park Memorial High School Choir Director Christian McLeer, H. Frank Carey High School Choir Director Michael Moreno and Elmont Memorial High School Choir Director Benjamin Pesenti.
Following the chorale performance, Superintendent of Schools Regina Agrusa commended the recent achievements of Sewanhaka High School and Floral Park Memorial High School students. Sewanhaka senior Alexandra Saccone was recognized for being selected as a 2026 Coca-Cola Scholarship Semifinalist. She is among 1,238 students selected from over 107,000 applicants nationwide and was chosen based on her academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities.
Floral Park Memorial’s varsity soccer team was congratulated for their successful fall season and for being named as Nassau County Champions for the second consecutive year. The team was led by head coach Ahkeel Rodney, who was also recognized as Conference Coach of the Year, and assistant coaches Christopher McKie and Kristen Freiermuth.
