Sewanhaka High School students at career showcase

On November 29, Sewanhaka High School hosted its very first Career Showcase. The career showcase featured a variety of organizations and professionals to highlight the 16 career clusters of the National Career Cluster Framework. Some of the pathways that joined us were architecture/design, education, finance/sales, health sciences, real estate/business, hospitality/restaurant management, carpentry, law, public administration and human services. We welcomed representatives from Northwell Health, NYS Parks Department, the Legal Aid Society, SCOPE Education, Ridgewood Savings Bank, UBS Arena and more. Students were able to have meaningful conversations with employers to make connections between career insights and their skills, interests and values. Students will be developing workforce readiness through working with organizations like SCOPE Education, NYS Parks Department and Northwell Health on part-time employment and volunteering opportunities.

Students were given career showcase passports to encourage participation and conversation with multiple employers. Students who submitted a completed passport at the end of the event were entered into a special Sewanhaka raffle. It is also our goal that through experiences like the showcase, students can build their soft skills, advocacy efforts and confidence in networking. With this information, students can imagine themselves in the workforce and make informed decisions throughout their academic journey. The Career Showcase Committee with the support of administration and the building custodial staff. Thank you to everyone who helped, worked with students and attended!
