Sewanhaka Central High School District’s robotics team, the RoboPandas, competed against 30 of the top qualifiers from across Long Island at the FIRST Long Island Championships at Bethpage High School on March 12.

The RoboPandas teamed up with the IslandBots and RoboHawks for a three-team alliance. The alliance competed in the Playoff/Elimination Rounds at the end of the competition, which includes a semi-final round and a final round. Each of these elimination rounds is played in a Best of Three Matches format. Their alliance won the semi-final round and the finals against the two different alliances of three robots.

Additionally, the RoboPandas earned third place for the Promote Award, which is given to teams that encouraged participation in robotics; as well as first place for the Design Award, recognizing the team that best incorporated industrial design elements into their robot. Advisor Jack Chen was given the Compass Award, recognizing him as the outstanding Coach/Mentor of the Year.
