The district proudly celebrated the various achievements of multiple students at the board of education meeting, held at Floral Park Memorial High School, on Feb. 27.

As attendees entered the auditorium, they were greeted by Floral Park Memorial’s “Matilda” cast, who performed songs from the upcoming spring musical.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Dolan began the student commendations by honoring Elmont Memorial High School senior Tiffany Wong for being recognized by the Nassau Board of Cooperative Educational Service with the Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award. She was nominated for the award by Elmont Memorial’s PTSA President Lynette Battle and Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages.

Four students were commemorated for being selected as finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. The students are Floral Park Memorial High School senior Damian Chin, New Hyde Park Memorial High School senior Youjun Han, New Hyde Park Memorial High School senior Ethan Mehta (not in attendance) and Floral Park Memorial High School senior Elise Pinola (not in attendance).

Sewanhaka High School student Morgan Winchell was recognized for being named the Nassau County Girls Bowling Champion. This is her second consecutive year being named a bowling champion, and she will be part of the Nassau all-star team competing on March 9 in Syracuse.
