Ms. Agrusa has spent her entire 27-year career within the SCHSD

The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Deputy Superintendent Regina M. Agrusa as the next superintendent of schools, effective July 1. The announcement was made during the April 17 regular meeting.

Ms. Agrusa has been an integral part of the district for more than 25 years, beginning her career as a school counselor at Elmont Memorial High School in 1997. She brings with her a deep understanding of the district's values and a commitment to student success. In addition to her current role, Ms. Agrusa has also served our community as assistant superintendent for student support services, district director of pupil personnel services and chairperson of pupil personnel services at Elmont Memorial High School.

Her leadership qualities, strategic vision, knowledge of our unique school community and passion for education make her the ideal candidate to lead our district into the future,” President of the Sewanhaka CHSD Board of Education William T. Leder said. “Additionally, her dedication to educational excellence, student well-being and community engagement has been exemplary throughout her decades-long tenure within our school district.”

Ms. Agrusa expressed her excitement about her new role, stating, “I am deeply honored and so proud to serve the Sewanhaka Central High School District as superintendent of schools. I look forward to continuing to work with our amazing students, talented and dedicated staff, and incredibly supportive and passionate families. I eagerly anticipate ongoing collaborations to ensure that our students become self-sufficient, critical thinkers and compassionate citizens.”

During her years as an administrator in SCHSD, Ms. Agrusa has developed relationships and collaborated with leadership in the district’s four elementary school component districts; initiated and developed a partnership with Eastern Suffolk BOCES to begin diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work for all district stakeholders; participated in the district’s Portrait of a Graduate committee that identified core competencies to inform the strategic plan; expanded the district Life Skill programs and enhanced the pre-vocational programs by increasing job sites and adding the Nicholas Center as a new option for vocational training; and worked to establish a partnership with Northwell Behavioral Health Center in order to provide access to students and families in mental health crisis.

Ms. Agrusa holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Villanova University and a master’s in human resource management from New York University. Additionally, she holds school district leader and school counselor, 7-12 certifications from New York State. Throughout her 27-year tenure in the district, she has also been awarded the SCOPE Administrator Service Award, the Nassau Counselors’ Association Administrator of the Year Award and the Academy for Character Education Leadership Award from Sage College.

As part of the superintendent search, the board of education engaged the services of School Leadership LLC, took feedback from all constituent groups, held community forums and utilized a community survey to narrow its search.
