In Memoriam: Dr. George Goldstein

The district mourns the passing of former Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Goldstein, who passed away on December 26, 2025. Dr. Goldstein dedicated nearly four decades of service to the Sewanhaka school community, leaving a lasting impact on students, staff and the entire district.

Dr. Goldstein began his career at Sewanhaka High School on September 1, 1965, teaching business and later serving as chairperson of the business department. He went on to join the central office as business administrator before being appointed superintendent of schools in 1986. Dr. Goldstein served in this role for 18 years, providing steady and thoughtful leadership until his retirement in June 2004. During his tenure, he played an integral role in the development of the Academy of Finance and the Bridge Program and was deeply committed to ensuring that students with disabilities were educated and supported within the district.

Dr. Goldstein is remembered as a dedicated and compassionate leader who cared deeply about the success of every student. His strong and creative leadership left an indelible legacy and continues to serve as a model for future educators. Dr. Goldstein is survived by his wife, Evelyn Goldstein.
