Elmont Memorial High School is proud to announce that eighth grader Ositadinma Uche-Konkwo was named the Spelling Bee champion on Jan. 16.
The competition began with a written spelling test for seventh and eighth graders, after which the top 20 students advanced to the on-stage spelling bee.
Uche-Konkwo won the championship by correctly spelling the word “abysmal.” He now has the chance to advance to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee in February.
