FCCLA State Leadership Conference

Members of the Sewanhaka Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America recently attended the annual State Leadership Conference at Villa Roma Resort, where they joined more than 170 students from across New York State for a fun and inspiring few days.

Eight chapter members competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, presenting projects that highlight real-world, college- and career-ready skills. They competed in categories including Career Investigation, National Programs in Action – Student Body, Chapter Service Project Display, and Chapter Service Project Portfolio. Their hard work truly paid off, earning a total of six gold medals and two silver medals. Even more exciting, six members qualified to move on to the National Leadership Conference this summer in Washington, D.C.

In between competitions, students attended interactive workshops on topics such as managing stress and strengthening leadership skills, while also connecting with members from other chapters. They tested their knowledge in FCCLA activities and enjoyed a banquet dinner followed by a dance — definitely a highlight of the trip!

Students also heard from keynote speaker John Beede, who encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, stay determined and believe in their ability to achieve big goals
