Students holding awards.

The district’s art department proudly presented “Portrait,” a districtwide student exhibition on display at the Elmont Public Library through April 29. This year’s showcase drew inspiration from the district’s Portrait of a Graduate initiative.

The exhibit highlights students’ artistic growth, from their first introduction to the Elements of Art in seventh grade to the advanced exploration and creative independence achieved in AP Studio Art.

A total of 25 students, each thoughtfully selected by their art teacher, were chosen to display their work in the exhibit. The selected students are: Emily Bennett, Layla Clarke, Alexander Isoga, Scarlett Rodriguez and Kelly Hernandez Villalobos from Elmont Memorial High School; Mahak Ahmed, Jeremiah Davis, Madeleine Lynch, Julianne Marquez and Ace Van Snellenberg from Floral Park Memorial High School; Adriana Anjos, Emily Hinostroza, Kate Ras, Ana Takeshita and Boya Wang from H. Frank Carey High School; Anisha Ahmed, Rayan Doha, Mannat Sandhu and Elaine Xu from New Hyde Park Memorial High School; and Ashmita Ahmad, Momina Ali, Olivia Ally, Mya Battick, Ramanpreet Kaur and Joshua Lariosa from Sewanhaka High School.

“In this exhibit, ‘portrait’ becomes a lens through which we see our students: as individuals, as artists and as evolving thinkers,” District Coordinator of Visual and Media Arts Cassandra Papajohn-Shaw said. “Together, the works on display form a collective portrait of who our student artists are at this moment in their journey.”
