The Sewanhaka Central High School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Antonio Santana and John Squillace as principal and assistant principal, respectively, of Elmont Memorial High School.
Joining Elmont Memorial as principal, Mr. Santana brings more than 20 years of educational leadership experience. Most recently, he served as superintendent of schools for the South Country Central School District, where he spearheaded a K-12 instructional improvement agenda focused on strengthening curriculum alignment, expanding academic supports, increasing assessment participation, and enhancing access to rigorous coursework and dual-enrollment opportunities. His extensive experience also includes service as a high school principal, middle school principal, and junior high school assistant principal.
Mr. Santanaearned a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Cornell University, a master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision from Touro College and holds New York State certification as a School District Administrator and Supervisor.
A familiar and respected presence within Elmont Memorial, Mr. Squillace has dedicated more than two decades to serving the school community. Since joining the district in 2003 as a mathematics teacher, he has made a lasting impact on students through a variety of leadership and instructional roles. Over the years, he has served as interim chairperson of mathematics, summer enrichment supervisor, interim assistant principal, dean of students, and coach for softball, volleyball and cheerleading. He is also an active member of the Schoolwide Safety Team, has overseen attendance initiatives for 10th and 12th grade students, and regularly supports student mediation efforts.
Mr. Squillace earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from LIU Post, a master’s degree in Administration and Technology from Adelphi University and holds a School Building Leader certification.
