Student Holding Certificate

It was a night of celebration at Sewanhaka High School as five students were recognized for their exceptional accomplishments during the Board of Education meeting on May 24.

Floral Park Memorial High School student Fatima Razvi was congratulated for her selection as one of five teens worldwide to participate in the Coordinated Management of Meaning Institute. Razvi will be working with four other young women from Denmark, Norway and the United States to create products, activities or platforms to address the hopes and concerns of teens from around the world.

Additionally, four students were commended for their recognition by the New York State Education Department as My Brother’s Keeper Fellows. Terrell Lewis and Nicholas Sylvester were honored from Elmont Memorial High School, and Garvey Dorestan and Fritz Pajotte Jr. were honored from Sewanhaka High School. Each New York State My Brother’s Keeper Fellow will have a mentor currently employed with one of the NYSMBK Community Network partners. The Fellows are to develop and complete a service project related to one of the NYSMBK Milestones with the partner that would benefit the school and/or community. In addition, the Fellows will serve on a statewide My Brother’s Keeper Fellows Workgroup, coordinated by the NYSED Office of Family and Community Engagement, which will provide input on the development and implementation of a statewide MBK Mentoring Network.
